"I wanted to thank you for providing such a wonderful experience on my combination elk and mule deer hunt. When I first visited the Harteis Ranch for my Merriam’s turkey several years ago, it was readily apparent that I had found the North American Garden of Eden. I have been fortunate to visit every state and 39 countries and I don’t think I’ve ever seen more beautiful place than your ranch. While I had high expectations based on my first visit, I could not have envisioned how wonderful this elk/mule deer trip would be. In addition to the spectacular scenery, as I don’t need to remind you, your staff is second to none. From the lodging, to the food, to the guides, to the ranch owners and your other guests, everyone I met was incredible.  In particular, I loved having Josh with me to show me the ins and outs of the HS Precision rifle. He was really helpful getting me a lethal shot on my elk.  Your guides also took great care with the trophy and your on site butcher did a great job with the meat. 
No one will believe we had nine hunters in camp and all nine killed their elk. I’ve never been on 100% success elk hunt.

I have had the hunting privilege of hunting with Freddy at the Harteis Ranch & Properties multiple times and twice with my daughter Emma. These are trips that will be with us the rest of our lives. The lodging, staff, and guides are the best at what they do. Wonderful home cooked meals, private bedrooms, and sitting around the fire at night was just half of the fun and experience. I have been very lucky to take a beautiful elk on the first day of rifle season. My daughter Emma shot her first bear at the Harteis Ranch with a bow. Buffalo hunting, mule deer hunting and much more! This place is so much more than an “outfitter”. It really is like family in my experience. I’ve been blessed to hunt with a lot of different outfitters but this is truly a place where you come as a guest but leave as family. Thank you Freddy for all the great times!! I had the opportunity to hunt with Freddy Harteis on his ranch in Weston Colorado in October 2024. I was coming for elk and mule deer on a 5 day hunt. I was a little nervous that it was only 5 days but decided to roll with it. Upon arriving I was impressed with the lodge. It’s a large log cabin with a full catering kitchen, large dining area, upstairs pool table and big living room with TV and assorted trophies throughout. They showed me to my room with 2 beds and a full bath. I don’t think I’ve ever had a whole bedroom to myself on a hunting trip. In fact, everyone had their own room. We woke up at 6:00 am and were served a continental breakfast. Went to hunt till around 9:30’ish then back to the lodge for a full breakfast. Lunch was served around 1:00 and we went back out to hunt around 2:30. Breakfast and lunch were good, but the dinners were amazing! The chef must have had his own restaurant because this was what I consider 5-star restaurant gourmet food. For the first 2 days Freddy asked me if I minded going to one of his other camps as there were some good deer they had spotted. 2 of us went to the Ten Bar Ranch. It wasn’t as nice as Freddys ranch but a solid hunting lodge again with my own bedroom. We hunted for 2 days but couldn’t close the distance on a good deer. We saw a nice herd of elk but no shooters in the group. After the second day's hunt, we came back to the main lodge for dinner and to sleep. Day 3 brought a lot of hiking and some animals but nothing that was worth shooting. Day 4 became epic!  In the afternoon the guides said they spotted a nice deer. We went out and climbed up on a rock bluff to glass. There were over 100 deer in the meadow below. We picked out a really big deer and as we were setting up we spotted an even bigger one. While we studied him an even larger buck came out. I had to choose between two 180 class bucks. The one I picked presented himself at 272 yards and I dropped him. I was crazy excited. A big deer is really what I wanted out of this trip. While we were taking pictures one of the other guides called and said they spotted a herd of elk in another meadow. My guide said “you want to try to fill your elk tag now?” Well hell yes I did! We drove around to the other meadow, and they were still there. We put a pretty good stalk on them by walking around the mountain and getting behind the herd. We crawled the last 100 yards to get into a prone position. There was a nice 5x6 bull who was chasing a cow. Back and forth he went from one end of the herd to the other. In a little more than an hour I had killed 2 great animals. My excitement was only heightened by how happy the guides were for me. I was lucky to get my animals. In fact, everyone that week tagged out. I was happy to fill my tags but what really made the trip was the staff and guides. They were all like a big family. Everyone was respectful, they were veteran guides that knew their stuff and could hold an interesting conversation at dinner. Everyone was truly vested in our experience and hunt. This camaraderie and dedication are what will bring me back again. Freddy you have great ranches but an even better staff.

Just got back from a hunt on the Harteis Ranch. Unbelievable place, from the food to the guides. 

Accommodations: Lodge is first class, with an unbelievable setting 

Food: Chef Art could not have been better. From breakfast to dinner, it was amazing. If you needed a custom diet Art was there to please. 

Guides: There were 6 guides the week we were there. Average age around 40-45. All of them had a lot of experience and knowledge about the ranch and the surrounding ranches we hunted. Freddy himself also guides and is there 24-7 He was my personal guide the week I was there. He was great to hang out with for the week. We did manage to call in a couple of bulls and seen numerous ones on water. But no shot opportunities or not large enough for what I was looking for. The week we were there we took 2 elk with others that had opportunities. The quality of elk that we see were all 280 -350 bulls. I have hunted for the last 33 years all over the state of Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona. I will be returning to the Harteis Ranch next year for another great Hunt. Thanks Freddy and Staff

So I have been to the Harteis ranch 3 times, and am going back for more.  I have been for elk and antelope with a different variety of weapons.  Across the seasons the ranch can be so different and delightful.  From pretty leaves to snow and cold.  I am a realistic hunter and don’t ever expect to just go kill things.  I have however, killed my largest bull elk on the Harteis ranch.  And what a bull it was, last day , last hour, last chance.  What a great memory.  I have also been fortunate to be able to take older aging family members to the ranch.  Freddy and his team have helped me work with their limitations and make successful hunts for them.  As with all outfitters, it’s still hunting.  But I know I am hunting with Freddy and the boys again.

What an incredible first experience hunting the mountains of Southern Colorado! Freddy Harteis has an unbelievable operation in one of the most beautiful places in this country! I'm not sure where the amazing abundance of game ranks on the list of perks that his camp offers. The guides are spectacular! Not only due to their skills in the woods, but also they’re damn good people! The food and accommodations were on the level of a five star hotel and restaurant. Certainly not something you’d expect in the middle of the mountains. With all that said, the anticipation of climbing each ridge for the views you’d get to see, from wild game to mountain scapes kept me walking almost without fatigue! The keyword there is almost. Hunting At The Harteis Ranch & Properties

Last year I hunted elk at the Harteis Ranch & Properties. The area is beautiful and full of animals. It was an enjoyable experience in all respects. The lodge is beautiful, very well maintained, comfortable, and provides ambiance in every respect. Meals provided were delicious, varied and nutritious. 

We saw many elk at numerous locations including bulls of various sizes. I harvested a wide 5 X 5 on day one. The bull was loaded by several guides, skinned, butchered and prepared for shipping. The head was properly conditioned for mounting and shipped to the taxidermist.  Freddy doesn’t miss anything. Details most of us wouldn’t consider important are taken care of so the hunt is exciting and rewarding.  In summary, I would recommend to anyone who is serious about elk hunting consider the Harteis Ranch. Odds are very good and the experience unmatched.

My experience at the Harteis Ranch has been nothing short of outstanding! Freddy has a world class operation for experienced elk & deer hunters. He is truly a professional. I have now personally experienced 3 hunts with him, bringing multiple people with me. And each and every time, all of us were successful in harvesting an elk. The great lodging accommodations, abundant meals prepared by excellent cooks, and more than qualified guides, enable everyone to experience a memorable & successful hunt. 

Make no mistake, this vast scenic property has plenty of activity. Again, not one of us ever walked away without trophy elk. The cabins on the property are also well appointed and make those designated areas being hunted, easily accessible. 

So if you want to spend your time at a phenomenally run operation, look no further.

I’m a big game hunter and have been hunting for the last 20 years.  I mainly hunt with an outfitter and focus on private land hunts.  I have hunted with 8 separate outfitters during this time period with good and poor experiences.  Freddy Harteis is a great outfitter and the best one I have had the opportunity to hunt with.  In the 2024 hunt I shot a world class antelope and a large six-point elk over a six-day hunting period.  I had the opportunity of hunting with several guides that had great hunting and guides skills and were very knowledgeable of the areas we hunted and ability to locate animals.  Accommodations and food are superb as well, I’ve booked another hunt for next year with my son so this speaks volumes of Freddy Harteis's organization.

The Harteis ranch itself is built to an extremely high standard and has every comfort to ensure you can relax and unwind after a long, hard day of deer and elk hunting. The meals from Chef Art and his team are hearty and delicious and a highlight to the stay. The land has been expertly managed with feed plots, watering holes and oversized comfortable blinds strategically placed to ensure solid shooting lanes when attempting to harvest. The thousands of acres hold mature deer throughout the hunting season, and we regularly see 340+ bull elk and many cows on the property. Freddy even killed a 400+ elk on the property a few years back! Steve, Kooge and all the Harteis guides have worked this property (and a number of other nearby ranches you will have access to) extensively over the years and know the land like the back of their hands. Some of the best guides I’ve ever had the pleasure of running with!

I have been hunting at the Harteis Ranch and it's properties for 8 years now. My son and I have been successful hunting Antelope, Mule Deer, Elk and Bison on their properties. Most of the years I have come for several hunts and have been successful on all but my very first year which was Archery Elk and I would blame that on me and my first time. There were plenty of animals to hunt and I was learning how to hunt Elk with Archery. After having grown up in the Minnesota and Nebraska, I was very familiar with Midwest hunting so the hunting in the mountains was new to me. One of the greatest aspects of the Harteis Ranch is the people. The food is world class and the service by everyone is top notch. He even added an on-sight butcher this past year which makes bringing the meat home the easiest I have ever been around. I have been guided by six different guides over the years at the ranch and all have been excellent. The past few years, Freddy himself has guided either myself or my son and that is an incredible experience. He grew up hunting these mountains. He is absolutely the best shot I have ever seen with a bow, a tremendous hunting mind and a fun guy to challenge on his shooting course. The lodge is absolutely one of the nicest lodges I have ever stayed in and the focus on the guests getting to know each other is very important to the team. If you are fortunate to go to this lodge, I would also recommend the cabins in the back country. These are nice rustic cabins that you may have an opportunity to stay in if your guide is chasing an animal with you in the back country. As far as his other leases, he has accumulated a collection of phenomenal properties that have clearly been chosen because of their success potential. The Harteis ranch has a standard that is evident that all hunters whether it's their first time or 20th will have the best opportunity possible to shoot a trophy. It is hunting. It is not high fence, so your success rate has more to do with the hunter and their ability to outsmart the animal. I can guarantee the guides are up to the challenge and you will get your shot. This is based on my numerous trips and witnessing the success of so many in addition to my son and me. In regard to, athletic ability, they will customize the hunt to you. Several years ago, I was fortunate to share camp with an 80-year-old that ended up getting a giant Bull. Freddy and the guides made the hunt possible for him as I have seen them do for numerous people over the years. The hunt will be customized to your ability. I have hunted and fished all over North America and Canada. Many of these places have been tremendous lodges and I will put the Harteis Ranch up there with the best of the best. If you leave this ranch frustrated or wanting more....honestly, you have some real issues. Hunting with Harteis Ranch is not just hunting, it is an experience beyond simple words.  My wife and I went for a week without the kids, and at times I forgot we were hunting.  The lodging is first class, the food is spot on, and the activities during the down time from E-biking, shooting, and relaxation by the pond refilled our souls.  Oh and there is hunting.  Meticulous scouting, thoughtful planning, and world class animals made this one of my most memorable hunts.  I was able to fulfill a dream of a beautiful velvet Mule Deer.  I look forward to my next adventure.

When we arrived, I was very impressed with how well kept the Lodge was and how organized you kept all of the hunters’ equipment; it made unpacking and getting ready for the hunt a pleasure. Every hunter had the space they needed for their equipment and you and the team welcomed us with open arms.  I would also like to compliment you on how beautiful your lodge is, and the food was second to none.  Your guides were some of the best I’ve ever hunted with, and I felt a kinship with all of them and their love of the land and the sport of hunting.  I was amazed at the variety of terrain we were able to hunt and the number of animals we encountered.  My hunt was truly special, and it still amazes me how you pointed me and Mark in a direction to hunt on the third day and just like you thought, it was the place to be given the conditions.  I can still remember catching the first glimpse of my elk in the pines.  I knew he was a shooter right away.  From that first sighting to the point in time, he was on the ground and Mark. The elk was an incredible specimen and the stalk that led up to the kill adrenaline filled.  Mark played the wind perfectly.  As I
write to you now it’s like I am there all over again.  Thank you again Freddy and the Harteis Family for a hunt of a lifetime. We look forward to seeing you all again in 2026.

I have hunted the Harteis ranch for many years. Each year has been very enjoyable on every level- Accommodations are five star, The staff is exceptional, and the hunting properties are world class.
